Knockin' Boots

A fashionista I am not. I like reading about fashion. I like knowing about new trends, accessories, whatev...Pay even gets me a subscription to Lou Lou, which I absolutely devour every month. AND I've recently awakened a new love of handbags(for this, I blame Pay. She is a chronic bag and shoe-aholic). But when it comes down to everyday, I end up looking preeetty much the same. Morning comes and I grab whatever doesn't smell, what's comfortable and what pretty much matches. I've got the wardrobe - I just end up wearing the same 30% of it over and over.

Anyway, I'm good with that. Because I know I can work it if I want to. It's just most of the time, I can't really be bothered. And I've really got an issue with boots. Specifically, winter boots.

Winter boots make it hard to be fashionable. And I don't care if you've got the latest tassled, faux-furred, wedge-heeled, knee-highed, $400 monstrosity on your foot...it's STILL likely you have to change out of it when you get to the office for several reasons:

1. They're wet.
2. They don't match your outfit.
3. They're too hot to wear all day.

My winter boots rock. I got a new pair from Kamik this winter. They are warm, waterproof and grippy (they suck my socks off every time I take them off). They are also purple. PURPLE! Now that ain't matching diddly. Plus, they're uber-toasty. So it is a necessity for me to have a change of shoe when I get to work. Then this presents a whole NEW gamut of issues:

1.How do you know THAT shoe is gonna match your shizz?
2.Do you really want to leave spare shoes at work, cuz if you need them at home one day?
3.Should you leave more than one pair?

I'm not afraid to ask the tough questions.

I am laughing at this post because how can you not have an extra pair of shoes at work? I have about 15 pairs of shoes (8 of them under my desk) at work. In the morning I come in and slip my feet into whichever pair is closest. I just hope that they match. Seriously though. I keep that many shoes at work. It's overflow from the shoe cabinet at home.

WOW your brave... PURPLE Boots! Now all you need is some purple jeans and your all set. Barney would be soooooo proud!

Last week I bought a new pair of (let's call them) boots at Feet First. Last year I survived the entire winter with no boots. NONE! ZERO. I would go from my garage, into my car, park in front of the main entrance at work and back again therefore never needed boots. This year I went all out and bought myself a pair of black suede booties (they were on sale). These things in no way keep my feet warm and to tell you the truth they soak up water faster than the shoes I used to wear. I do not wear heels often because I look like a retard walking in them.

So I went outside my comfort box and bought myself these 3inch heeled black sued boots. I wear them at work all day and they are comfy and dammit I look hot! heh

After all thats what its all about no?

Purple. Me likey!

I've got one pair o' shoes at the office... black ones... but hey I'm a guy right?

Wait, I'm a GAY guy. Some would point out, cause of the fab-gene, I ought to have more than one pair available at all times, but screw it; I'll even wear a brown belt with those black shoes!

Oh yea! I'm a rebel!

I must see a picture of the purple boots. I must have them :)

looking across my cubicle I see my ubber warm, most unsexy Pajar winter boots; brown wedge boots for indoor wear; black pumps; and on my feet... black flats. Indeed, winter does present a footwear conundrum!

I just keep two pairs of shoes under my desk - a brown more casual pair and a black high heal pair. So I know one of them is going to match with pretty much whatever I wear.
P.S. I agree we must see a pic of those purple boots!

my merrell's have lasted me 8 years so far. I'm thinking of stretching them out to 10, but i might be forced to toss'em next year (the sole is detaching at the side of the foot)...I love them cuz they're warm and waterproof (snoseal once ayear) and they seriously grip the ice - i don't know why though. I've walked in them so much that the sole is pratically rubbed off. But (with a bit of care) and can easily walk over an icy spot, or stabilise on one that takes me by surprise (snow-covered-iced-sidewalks of Mtl, anyone?)
Anywho, when i was at school i couldn't be bothered to bring my books, my lunch, my 1L Nalgene water bottle, possibly my supper AND shoes in my backpack...so, i'd wear my boots and have sweaty feet by the first 15min of the 3h lecture. Oh well.
Now that i work, though, I bring my pair of shoes with me everyday. Bc my running-like suede shoes don't go with my skinny jeans, but clean pants don't really fit with my flat keds (for the skinny jeans) and also i prefer to wear my boots (the indoor kind) when i wear a skirt but some skirts look too weird with the boots so i have to wear flats or even - when i feel bold - heels. SO, yeah. I bring the matchiest pair of shoes everyday to work, and then bring them back. Bc i rarelly know in advance what i'll be doing that evening and hate the thought of leaving at the office the ONE pair that match with a certain outfit. I always have a lunch so i'm also lugging a bag around anyways...what's a shoe or two?

However, i do recommend leaving a pair that you NEVER wear at work..in case you're in a hurry and forget the footwear. The ones i leave are the 5$ china-town black cloth (mary-jane?)shoes with the reddish-sole. They fit with skirts and skinny jeans and normal jeans and even hide well under dressier pants..but not very comfy, in the long run.

my boyfriend makes fun of me bc of the shoe-connundrums i put myself through every morning....it's not easy being a girl (i don't like shoes that much, i just want them to match and they never seem to....)

I always wanted a pair of WHITE Kamiks when I was a kid. I always thought they looked really cool, because that's the colour they wear in the arctic a lot. Of course, I never got a pair, but now that I have my own kids (and I care less and less about what people think about me), I think I'd like to get a pair for Liam, and a matching pair for myself. Of course, we'd need snow first.

On shoes at work:
Our sports guy in Halifax wore a pair of Foamtreads slippers all winter long.
I stole the idea from him somewhere along the way, and I leave a pair at work - but the Southern Ontario winters are so mild compared to home that I rarely wear boots anyway, so the slippers rarely if ever see the light of day.

...You don't have a locker?

Cheryl (a.k.a Sherri, and vice-versa) said...

OMG I want them! Perhaps for next winter, though.

Oooh, N@, how do you fight off the men who must have you, because of your ooh-la-la boots? C'est chic, n'est-ce pas?

I didn't know what y'all were talking about, Kamik boots, so I Googled 'em. Hey, back da bush where I from come, them is "les maudits skidoo boots".

Some of my buddies and I had some of the all-white ones when we were teenagers. We called them lineman boots, I guess because guys who climbed poles for a living wore them. My Dad still has mine at his house. The only time they're ever used is on our traditional Boxing Day trip to the cottage, which includes breaking trail through ass-deep snow for about a hundred feet.
The boots are also very slippery on icy sidewalks and roadways.

Winter boots - don't get me started...I am like Maria, last year I made it through the whole winter season with no boots, but this year that wasn't happening especially with all those major snow storms!!! and now I have a pup who goes on a walk daily, I have to walk in more snow than usual, so I got myself one of those snowboard style boots - and they have kept my feet warm and dry compared to my fashionable boots that always make my feet freeze and if there is slush then wet... I bring my lunch to work so I always throw in the pair of shoes I want to wear that day in my bag, I feel like a bag lady in winter carrying a shoe bag, a lunch bag and a purse - oh I hate winter just for that!

Holy Purple Moon Boots!

I so dig 'em!

You give a whole new meaning to BOOTYlicious!

I bet those boots keep your feet toasty warm all winter. Thats all that matters.

N@, i loved that you typoed "shoes" instead of "shows" in a post about footwear...
btw, in case you miss bold colours once winter is gone, you can go for the Kamik rainboots (i have the orange ones...they make me happy on a rainy day)

tball said...

I went to Kamik's website cuz I was curious to see your purple boots, and I think my winter boots though not Kamik are similar...mine look very similar to the Steamboat and yes they are very toasty and keep your feet super dry...and they also suck my socks off LOL! but I love them it was the best pair of winter boots I have ever owned - but on the fashion side well I won't be hitting the clubs or restaurants in them, that's for sure...

Nat, it's been a whole week!! Where are you? Still trying to decide what shoes to keep at work?
