CONGRATULATIONS, MA! That is excellent. I have a couple of reusable bags myself. And on the off chance that I forget to bring them to the store..I FEEL SOOO GUILTY!! But, I think that's a good thing. Keep a couple in yer car!
I bought one of them green thingies a couple weeks ago, too, and also feel guilty when I forget the friggin' thing on my kitchen counter. Keeping one or some in the car is great in theory. But in practice, you have to bring back out to the car at some point after emptying them. Baby steps, indeed. Another wee, tiny thing I do to save the planet for my future Grandlittles (Little Bro Dan's babies): I refuse a bag if it's not absolutely necessary, and just make sure to get the receipt so I'm not tackled by the people greeter on the way out of the store. I hate getting my ass kicked by someone who uses a walker.
I don't bring my own bags I would feel like a bag lady. However, I do reuse the bags for garbage or the kids lunches. By kids I am referring to hubby and sonny boy.
sure as hell do! We bought 4 (two for each of us) We got them about two months ago. and you can fit a TON of crap in em! And ours have two sets of handles... short ones for hands, or longer ones if the bag is heavy, you can use for shoulder straps. AND the handles are WAY more comfortable... a nice wide band, not like the plastic bags that literally want to cut through your hands when the bags are heavy!
It will be interesting to see how this goes in Huntingdon... I'd LOVE to see this in Mtl! Everywhere for that matter!
I have been for two years. Granted it's bc I walk to the grocery store and plastic bags are NOT made for walking ppl...I'd bring my packpack and my nifty green bag i bought in Australia that is like the black loblaws one only bigger. Last year though I discovered the BEST reusable bag EVER, which folds up in a tight little wad that can fit in your purse (in case you buy something on a whim, you always have it with you!). It's very light and very strong and best of all has great graphic design (http://www.envirosax.com/pages/products.php) I found some at St. Lawrence Market in Toronto, but saw some in Casa Luca on Fleury in Mtl. (after the blender, i'm sales-pitching my enviro bag..what is wrong with me? why does my stuff make me so happy..it's just stuff! and yet....) anyways, I hate plastic bags in trees. The world could definitely do with less plastic bags.
Why bring your own grocery bags when you can just steal a grocery cart? Seems like I am seeing more and more people on the streets walking home with the said carts, and I ain't talking about a little cart that you can buy I mean the ACTUAL grocery store grocery cart. Has anyone else seen grocery cart stealing consumers? Or are all the cleptomaniacs living in NDG?
O.k. I know it's a total non-sequiter..ur..or, whatever, but I have to share this site with someone, and since I don't manage to keep up with my own blog, I am hijacking Nat's :)
I have two of those IGA bags and love them! They are nice and tall so not everything spills out of them and those suckers are solid :)
I also nabbed a Metro bag that I got free with the purchase of Milk and a cute Telus bag that was handed out out by them last year around Christmas time.

I have 6 of those black Loblaws/Maxi bags. You can fit alot of stuff in those things.
Keep them in my trunk, and I still forget to bring them into the store sometimes. D'oh!

Some people got way too much time on their hands.
Oh, and I bring my own bags when it's a planned trip -- sometimes I don't pre-plan groceries. There, that's a sequitur...or/er.

I bring my own bag to the store and I feel guilty when I forget to bring it. Honestly, I have too much guilt in my life. Stay cool.
I have to be honest... I don't bring my own bags most times. But I do recycle.
