Waiting....

Today, we get Flea's test results. Wish us luck! For those of you who didn't read the last series of comments, she had a couple of seizures the other day. After a vet trip, he decided to do another round of liver testing called a 'bile acid' test - to see if she has a liver shunt (where the bloodflow doesn't go through the liver for cleansing...it goes AROUND it, creating toxins in the body which can lead to seizures). She also still has bilirubin crystals in her urine AND her pee behaviour is still odd to me. Anyway....let's hope this thing, whatever it is, is manageable. On pins and needles til the vet calls....

Hey Nat,

If it is a liver shunt, it's definitely manageable. My Tequila was just diagnosed with that in June and we've had her on medication since then. We're waiting for the fall to get a surgery (possibly) done as we take her swimming in Lake Champlain (where we spend every weekend) quite often.

Just thought you'd like to know that it's not a death sentence. Also, here's a link I found that describes the shunt and surgery options.

Take care and best of luck with little Flea!

Hey N@

We’ve all got our fingers crossed on our end for Flea, here’s hoping for the best. On the home front I found a bump just under Shakespeare’s right armpit, it doesn’t seem to bother him but I have VET apt for Friday to have it looked at. I’ can’t say I’m overly worried because he’s still the energetic character he’s always been but it’s the “What if” that has me on edge.

Hey..thanks for the support, guys! And Tara--for the information...you're the best!!!! :) I called the vet and the lab hasn't returned the results yet, so I am supposed to call back tomorrow morning...erghghg...

In the meantime, I just had a great walk with Flea where she ran and explored and chased squirrels and had a big ol' poop. Then we came home and she ran around all crazy playful on the bed (I throw them on the bed when they are hyper, because they have no grips on the hardwood floor!). So - I guess you just need to take it day by day - and today, was a GOOD day for Flea!
