Gudstuph for my innards

Reading a book I picked up in Charlottetown called "SuperFoods Health Style" by Steven G. Pratt. I am LOVING this book. It details the best foods to eat for your health and why. It also includes stuff about how certain foods fight certain cancers and diseases, etc etc....this is all stuff I know you've heard about before but the way the book is sectioned, it's a really neat and easy read. He touches on all aspects of healthy living: exercise, social interaction, sleep, stress management, spirituality, etc. I'm a pretty healthy person overall, but I am finding myself more and more interested in things like food and how they connect to improving specific aspects of your health. He also provides lists of specific product names (for instance, the best cereals, the best breads, etc).

I find when I reach for 'bad' foods now (white flour, refined sugar, that 2nd cup of joe, McNuggets dipped in gravy, a stick of butter coated in candy sprinkles...), I think about how it is sabotaging my health in the long run. And I want to live a long, healthy life....don't we all?

Anyway, we made an easy salmon recipe tonight from the book:
the marinade is: chopped garlic cloves, non-fat yogurt, dijon mustard, paprika, pepper....
and it was dee-lish. I can give you specific measurements if you're interested.

Then we chased 'er down with a little Colt 45 and Crisco shooters.

We all have our setbacks.

Hey N@

This sounds similar to a book I picked up a while back. It covers the same topics, but get this it even tells you what Fast foods are better than Others (In moderation…there’s always a catch) but the book has an exercise oriented feel to it so it will tell you what to eat for toning, losing weight, or packing on the mus-kles. The book also gave me suggestions for the time of day to eat certain foods, and despite being very detailed it’s an easy read. So you don’t have to read it in the Crap-lounge, you can actually carry it around with you for quick reference

I admire people who can live such a healthy existence. It takes so much commitment and it's so much work.

That's why I like to live by the philosophy that one day a health nut and I will be crossing the road at the same time and get hit by some jerk who is running a red light.

The fact that the health nut was able to do 100 pushups that morning really doesn't matter... pass me another Mars bar.

What Milky said!

I'm overweight, totally unathletic, yet it seems that the guys at work who run marathons, etc. are the ones who most frequently call in sick. Hmmmm...

Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia, about Jim Fixx, the man most credited with prompting the fitness and jogging craze:

"Fixx died at the age of 52 of a massive heart attack, during his daily run, on Route 15 in Hardwick, Vermont. The autopsy revealed that cholesterol had blocked one coronary artery 95%, a second 85%, and a third 50%. Many believe that Jim Fixx (the health nut) dying while jogging is the most beautiful example of irony ever! Bill Hicks has said in his comedy that the death of Jim Fixx, while jogging, is proof there is a god."

The whole thing is one of life’s practical jokes…Don’t exercise and presto your FAT & unattractive and have a hard time keeping it hard. Exercise to rigorously and the cartilage in your knees give out, and next thing you know your in a nursing home are the ripe old age of 38. I think Moderation is key…or was it masturbation?..No wait it was moderation. Eating right is important, but how can we when the best foods are soooo BAD for you?

I'm no triathlete by any stretch. My friend did a 42 k marathon last May (she had a baby last July) and I was like, "There is NO way I would ever want to do that. I admire people who can, but it's not for me".

I don't resent uber-health nuts and I don't resent the not so nutty. I just live my own life the best I can.

What I'm talking about is living healthfully - not - being a fanatic about it. Making simple, easy choices to be kind to your heart/liver/kidneys/lungs/mind--unless you're Keith Richards, they're the only ones you get! It doesn't mean stocking up on spandex clothes, a $10 000 racing bike, a Bo-Flex home gym, etc...it means taking the stairs, eating frozen yogurt instead of ice cream, throwing some fruit on your morning cereal (Lance Bass not included), biking to work - know what I mean?

Little things! Baby steps!

I am eating more veg and fruit now then I ever did. Moving a tad more by walking the poopy dog. I still indulge and the like(grape therapy helps but not the waitline).

I have seen a change and people keep telling me I have lost weight...I just say I buy bigger clothes. But I have!

Also, take vitamins...C and Multi are what I take and I have not been sicky sicky in a while.

Keep smilin!

p.s push-ups are the bane of my existence. I am a twig-armed little wimp and can barely hoist my carcass up more than 10 times.

But I can pick up a phone book with my butt cheeks.

What do you think of that?!

Honest to God, N@, if you were 15 years older and had no Corn in your life, Ma Horton would have her Bobbycakes for a son-in-law. I'd even learn to love chihuahuas.

Which reminds me, in a warped kind of way: A co-worker went to her ex's wedding a couple weeks ago. It sounds like a totally tacky thing, complete with Dog in Wedding Party who decided, during the vows, to crap on the floor. Hi-LARRY-ous!

N@ Is that TRUE?

I gotta ask, bare butt or covered? This isn’t the day to day phone book one might use if they were to visit your residence would it? … …again…WOW!

Is that the whole phone book, or just the 'yellow' pages?
;-P

Timmins phone book or Montreal?
