You saved Casey!

Now, this is the kind of story that could pump some love into the cold, dead heart of Kim Jong Il!!

Guys, 6 days ago I asked if you could help. Help a little pug puppy found wandering and sick. Casey suffers from a liver shunt. Her blood doesn't flow to her liver. So, it can't be cleaned or processed into a useable form for her body. For Casey, medication and diet can only go so far. Her shunt is large. It needs surgical correction or her condition will continue to deteriorate until the inevitable happens.

The surgery costs $4000.

6 days ago, I asked you if you could help. And man - you did. Donations poured in from all over Montreal and as far away as New Jersey, Michigan, Timmins, Toronto, Nashville and Los Angeles. But not JUST donations: kind words, offers to adopt, similar stories, encouragement - momentum. You kept it rolling. You crossposted. You told your friends and family. You organized fundraisers and you didn't get shitty with me when I wouldn't shut up about it! heh!

When I woke up this morning, we had $2600 to go to make that surgery happen.

Tonight, Erin Bessette from Vernon B.C. - an animal lover and pug owner herself (3 times over!) - made an unbelievably generous gift of the remainder of that bill.

Balance: ZERO.

Simply amazing. Casey's liver shunt surgery is scheduled for April 27th at DMV. It's a difficult surgery, though not uncommon. It will very likely be the start of her new, long and healthy life! And you made it happen. Think a kind thought for Casey - she needs to pull through now more than ever. After all, our hearts are personally invested now (how are we ever going to work out shared custody?)

Amazing to realize this was all via Facebook (I knew there was a reason I joined that damn thing)! Word of mouth is an incredible thing. You are incredible people. Thank you isn't enough - but thank you a million times over!

Updates to come about those weekend fundraisers. Updates about Casey (naturally! When she recovers, she will need a very special permanent home) and our grand prize Peter Gabriel ticket winner on Friday! So, keep watching this space.

Keep in mind, little Casey put a face on the plight of unwanted animals. But there are so many of them out there that suffer in so many ways and never get their story told. Keep supporting your local adoption centers - keep adopting animals (don't buy them!) , spay and neuter your pets...

Man, I'm so happy. Thank you Erin. Thank you, internet. YOU SAVED CASEY!!!
