I Have A Fever.

Not just A fever. THE fever.

Something is happening to me. Something I've never experienced before. Those of you who know me well, will perhaps gasp audibly when I tell you...

Last night, I watched the ENTIRE Canadiens/Flyers hockey game.

The whole freakin' thing. And I was into it. I liked it! Chewin' my nails at some points. Sitting at the edge of my seat. Holding my breath. Yelling at the TV.

That is not me. I have never had an inkling of an interest in sports. NONE. Never played 'em as a kid. Never watched 'em. Nuthin'. I never understood why people were so into sports. It's a joke around the station, actually. "Hey, Nat - we're talkin' hockey - did you see the (heh, snicker) game last nite?" It's a bit of a crime, really - being from Timmins where so many pro hockey players are from. And living in Montreal, a true hockey town. I have been a disgrace to my countrymen and I admit it.

I think it started when Corn started getting into hockey. He played a bit on local rinks this winter. Then he joined a local league. And now I guess am a fan by osmosis. I didn't even know it was happening, even and now, look at me. An entire game.

I don't even know the rules. So, I am asking lots of questions. I am learning about powerplays and breakaways and what the blue line means. Last night I asked Corn what stick-holding was. And I didn't even get that it was about a player holding ANOTHER guy's stick. I thought the player was holding his own stick. And I wondered why he'd get in trouble for holding his own stick. If I made hockey rules, I would say that stick-holding is fine as long as you are a consenting adult.

Anyway, I guess I'm a late bloomer. And it's quite possible that this is a passing Playoff fad. But right now, I'm a hockey fan. I want the Habs to win. And the more I yell at the TV, the better their chances.

All you need now is to get yourself a HABS flag and let it fly high and proud on your PRIUS!!

I am not really into hockey and the faster they loose the better. The family is now divided with the 2 boys downstairs (also yelling at the TV) and the 2 gals upstairs watching DEAL OR NO DEAL and Two and a Half Men. I am tired of having to watch TV on the 26' when the other dudes are watching TV on the 51' --- I guess we let them have their fun for now. It surely won't last that much longer... or will it?

GOD BLESS YOU, NAT!
;-)
I've been a Habs fan for as long as I can remember, and I think (as hard as it was to watch them lose the game last night when they really deserved to win) that they will prevail over the Flyers.
As long as the idiots who burn cop cars and destroy things on the streets of the city are taken out of the equation in Montreal (and how heartbreaking must that be to the tens of thousands of good Habs fans in the city when stuff like that happens?), it will be great to see the team come back and prevail in this series!
Yay Habs! Yay Nat!
Hey Maria! Go downstairs and watch the game! You might surprise yourself and find yourself liking it!

You'll know you've crossed over from being a hockey fan to being a HABS fan when you start yelling at the TV in French.

"Frappe la maudite rondelle, chalice!"

...or when, in a moment of um, passion, you yell "Il lance, il compte!"

Okay, la. Me, I'm gonna go at dah penalty box for deux minutes and feel shame.

SNAP OUT OF IT!

I swear, if you turn into one of those asstards... screamin' and yellin' out on the street, burning cop cars and honkin' yer damn horn in front of my place at ungodly hours, I swear... I'll hunt you down...

Keep it in check, chiquita... you're on a slippery slope... next thing you know you'll be doing face paint a la trois couleurs... at which point... you're lost forever...

So long as you keep the yellin' at your TV in the comfort chez vous, I'm good.

Go habs go!

Nat,

Wait til you join a hockey pool. All my guys play hockey, and John even coaches, but I never really got into the game til I got in the pool. I have a lot of Habs on my team, but I went heavy on Pittsburgh, so we'll see how it all turns out.

Love your work

Maux

Heh-heh. First time I've ever seen or heard a guy say "Mine's only 55 inches."
