Well, usually, you have time to pull their wings off - but in Nat's case, she was force-fed. Much better when you choose to eat a bug rather than have it forced on you. Then you can pick which parts you want to munch on.

I only eat chocolate dipped instect... Bees, Ants et.al. Never had a problem with one wing or leg.
